Getting started
How do I sign in?
Enter your email on the sign-in page and we send you a one-time link, so there is no password to remember. You can also continue with Google. Signing in is what keeps your subscriptions, queue and progress in step across your devices.
How do I find and add a show?
Open Discover, then search by name or paste a podcast's RSS feed address. Choose a show to open it, then Subscribe. When you subscribe you can pick how many recent episodes to download for offline listening.
Where do I listen on my phone?
Use the web app in your phone's browser, or the Android app. Your account is the same everywhere, so what you subscribed to and where you paused are already there.
Moving from another app
How do I import my podcasts?
- In your current podcast app, look for an option to export or back up your subscriptions as an OPML file. It's usually in Settings.
- Save the file to your device.
- In NextListen, open Settings, find Your data, and choose Import OPML.
- Pick the file, choose how many recent episodes to download for each show, and confirm.
Is there a limit on how many shows I can import?
No. Importing is never a paid feature and has no cap. A very large import runs in batches and you can watch its progress; if any show can't be fetched, the summary lists it so you can retry.
Will my listening history come across?
OPML carries your subscriptions, not your progress. That is how the format works in every app. Your subscriptions arrive straight away; NextListen starts tracking progress from there.
Listening, queue and sleep timer
How does the queue work?
Up next is a manual play list that plays before anything else. Add an episode from any show page, and reorder or remove entries whenever you like. When an episode finishes, the next queued one starts on its own.
How do I set a sleep timer?
In the player, choose Sleep and pick 5, 10, 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, or End of episode. Playback pauses when it runs out. End of episode stops instead of moving to the next queued item.
When is an episode marked as played?
When it plays to the end, or when you stop within the last minute. Mark any episode played or unplayed yourself with the tick beside it, or use Mark all played for a whole show.
Why does an episode have chapters or a transcript?
Only when the show provides them. If a show publishes chapters you can jump between them from the player, and a transcript button appears on episodes that have one.
Offline downloads
How do I download episodes?
Use the menu beside an episode and choose Download for offline, or set a rule per show when you subscribe. The Downloads tab lists what's on this device and works without a connection.
How many can I download?
Up to 25 per device. Storage is on your own device, so what you can keep also depends on how much space it has. Downloads in the web app depend on your browser's support for background downloads.
Does progress save when I'm offline?
Yes. Progress is saved on the device first and synced the next time you're connected, so a long flight doesn't lose your place.
What does unsubscribing do to my downloads?
Unsubscribing from a show also removes that show's downloaded episodes from the device you do it on. The web app asks you first and tells you how many will be removed.
Notifications
How do I get notified about new episodes?
Turn on notifications in Settings and allow them when your browser or phone asks. You can turn them off again in the same place at any time.
Your data and privacy
How do I take my data with me?
In Settings under Your data: Export OPML gives you your subscriptions in the standard format any podcast app can read, and Export listening data gives you a JSON file of your progress, played and archived state, and queues. Both are free on every plan.
How do I delete my account?
Settings, then Danger zone, then delete account. This removes your account and its data from our servers, and clears downloads and saved data on the device you do it from.
What do you do with my data?
The full details are in the privacy policy. In short: your listening history is yours, isn't sold, and isn't used to target ads.
Still stuck, or something broken?
Email privacy@nextlisten.co.uk and tell us what you were doing, which show or episode it happened with, and whether you were on the web or Android. A screenshot helps. Please don't include your password or payment details. We will never ask for them.
